Yesterday I went to grab lunch at a local chain that I love, but witnessed a health code violation that not only contaminated the food I was about to eat, but also contaminated the ingredients for anyone else choosing to eat there.

In that moment I had a choice - I could consume what I knew wasn't necessarily safe for me or I could nicely point out the error and walk away.

I have been a dietitian for nearly ten years. I am well versed in food violations and know the possible repercussions my body could experience from eating contaminated food. But I am also a recovering people pleaser, and in that moment part of my mind tried to convince me that I should just agree with the sweet girl at the counter who was trying to tell me that the heat of cooking will surely kill any chemicals and germs that were now on my food.

Luckily the part of my mind that knows I'm worthy of more kicked in.

I nicely explained the violation, let her know that I just couldn't eat there, and walked out.

I have done an immense amount of work on me. I value taking care of my mind, body, and soul, but in that moment my desire to not make someone else uncomfortable nearly stopped me from taking care of myself.

What would you have done? Would you have stood for what your body was worthy of, or would you have eaten the food and just prayed you didn't get sick?

Living with our minds can be a constant game, but you are worthy of taking care of you. You are worthy of standing up for yourself, and you are worthy of living an amazing life.
